State Government readiness to enhance and empower indigent women

The Wife of Abia Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has expressed the readiness of the State Government to enhance the level of financial inclusion and empowerment for indigent women.

Otti said this at a reception organised by Abia Government in honour of the winner of the Miss Nigeria International, Miss Blessing Nelson, who is from Abia, at the Government House, Umuahia.

She said that the government had approved the establishment of a cooperative society that would give Nano credit facilities to indigent women, particularly rural women.

Otti said that the government had evolved so many projects that would be used in addressing the issues that were limiting women in their careers and businesses.

She said that the government had initiated a sustained efforts towards addressing all the key areas in the economy, such as health, education and infrastructure, adding that Abia 2024 budget showed that priority was given to these key areas.

Otti commended the beauty queen for making the state proud by emerging the winner of the Miss Nigeria International Beauty Peagent.

“We are very proud of what you have achieved and we will continue to support you as you embark on your new endeavour and shine brightly to the world.

“We are going to support you in your pet projects to enable you succeed,”she said.

Otti urged the beauty queen to be a positive role model to young girls and make the most of your reign as Miss Nigeria International to impact the lives of people positively.

In her address, Mrs Blessing Felix, commended the beauty queen for being a worthy ambassador of Abia and for promoting the state through her emergence as the winner of Miss Nigeria International.

Felix said that the present administration was poised to reposition the state and the results of its resolve was visible across the state.

She said that the government would not hesitate to acknowledge any effort made by anyone to align with its rebuilding agenda and project the image of the state in good light .

In her speech, Nelson expressed delight over the reception organised in honour and added the recognition would serve as a big motivation in her career.

She said that was desirous to give back to society and had evolved a charity project that would be used to alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable people in the state.

According to her, the project covers areas such as education, campaign against illicit drugs and cultism as well as empowerment of young widows through capacity building and food support

Nelson appealed to the governor’s wife to support her pet project to further facilitate the successful achievement of its objective in Abia.

Earlier the organiser of the Beauty Peagent, Dr Brendan Nsikak, said that this year November, the beauty queen would be joining her counterparts in Philippines for a beauty pageant.

Brendan appealed to Otti for support to enable make the beauty queen make the trip and return with the crown.

In an interview with newsmen, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism and Entertainment, Mr Justice Martins, commended the organisers of the beauty pageant for enthroning high moral standards.

Martins said that beauty pageant had been marked by incidents of scandals that poor moral conduct by organisers and contestants.

He added that the pageant that produced Nelson as queen has not failed in ensuring that the process of the entire competition was done without record of any scandalous activity.

“This would serve as an encouragement to young ladies that desire to pursue a career in the industry.”
