2027: What Bourdex Promises To Do Differently For Abia North If Elected Senator

With the January 16, 2027, Abia North Senatorial election fast approaching, political discussions across the district are increasingly centered on one question: What will Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, MFR, OON, do differently if elected?

That question forms the basis of a position paper released by Hon. Prince Nmaju U. Nmaju, Media Aide to the senatorial hopeful, outlining what supporters describe as Bourdex’s vision for effective representation and sustainable development in Abia North.

According to the statement, Bourdex brings over four decades of experience spanning business, telecommunications, and public service. His supporters argue that his track record reflects integrity, discipline, innovation, diligence, and responsible leadership—qualities they believe are essential for effective representation in the Senate.

The statement notes that, if elected, Bourdex would prioritize accountable leadership by ensuring that the interests of the people of Abia North remain at the center of his legislative responsibilities. It adds that he intends to provide purposeful representation, making the voices and concerns of the district heard at the National Assembly.

Beyond legislative duties, the former business executive is expected to leverage his extensive local and international network to attract investments into Abia North. His supporters believe this approach would encourage economic growth, create employment opportunities, promote entrepreneurship, and improve livelihoods across the senatorial district.

Infrastructure development also features prominently in the agenda outlined by his media team. The statement emphasizes the need for improved road networks, expanded access to essential social amenities, and increased investment in rural development projects aimed at connecting underserved communities and promoting balanced growth.

Another major pillar of Bourdex’s proposed agenda is innovation. The statement highlights his commitment to embracing technology-driven solutions, empowering young people with relevant skills, supporting entrepreneurship, and introducing practical initiatives capable of addressing longstanding developmental challenges.

According to the publication, the 2027 election presents residents of Abia North with an opportunity to embrace a new style of leadership anchored on performance, experience, accountability, and measurable results rather than political promises.

While acknowledging that the final decision rests with the electorate, the statement concludes that many supporters believe Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex possesses the character, competence, and vision required to provide effective representation for Abia North in the Senate.

As the campaign season gradually gathers momentum, the race for the Abia North Senatorial seat is expected to remain one of the closely watched political contests ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku Gives Tinubu 7-Day Ultimatum Over Alleged PFIPC Scandal, Demands Independent Probe

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding an independent investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Atiku warned that failure to launch a transparent probe within the stipulated period would strengthen public suspicion that influential figures within the Federal Government may have played a role in the alleged scandal.

In a statement released on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the former Vice President argued that the issue has gone beyond allegations of forgery or impersonation. According to him, the controversy now raises serious questions about the integrity and accountability of government institutions.

He challenged the Presidency’s position that the PFIPC never officially existed, asking how an agency described as fictitious could allegedly operate through government structures, secure office space, interact with public institutions, host foreign delegations, and reportedly process staff salaries without the knowledge or involvement of government officials.

“If the government’s explanation is that one individual single-handedly created an office, operated within government facilities, interacted with security agencies, and carried out official functions unnoticed, then such a narrative raises more questions than it answers,” Atiku stated.

While maintaining that Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi should face the law if found guilty of any wrongdoing, Atiku insisted that the focus should not be limited to one individual. He argued that investigators must also determine whether weaknesses or complicity within government institutions enabled the alleged operation.

The former Vice President further questioned reports indicating that the PFIPC was captured in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a multi-billion naira budget allocation and that over 300 personnel were allegedly approved for recruitment into the agency through the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

According to him, such developments could not have occurred through mere administrative oversight, given the multiple stages involved in budget preparation, legislative approval, presidential assent, and civil service recruitment procedures.

He maintained that Nigerians deserve a comprehensive explanation of how an agency reportedly described as non-existent could allegedly pass through established government processes without raising red flags.

Quoting renowned Nigerian author Chinua Achebe, Atiku argued that the Presidency should not place the entire blame on one individual while ignoring possible institutional failures that may have facilitated the alleged activities.

He also referenced fresh claims by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who has denied any wrongdoing and alleged that powerful individuals were attempting to silence him. Atiku said these allegations further justify the need for an independent investigation.

The ADC presidential candidate called on President Tinubu to immediately order a transparent and impartial inquiry, stressing that all relevant documents, approvals, financial transactions, and official actions should be examined.

According to Atiku, only an independent investigation can establish the truth, identify anyone who may have enabled the alleged operation, and restore public confidence in government institutions.

“I’m Not a Criminal, Court Will Clear Me” — Alleged Fake Presidential DG Breaks Silence Amid Forgery Trial

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man at the centre of a high-profile forgery and impersonation case involving a purported presidential agency, has insisted that his appointment as Director-General was genuine, declaring that only the court can determine the truth.

Speaking during a telephone interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Thursday, Adeyemi dismissed allegations that he falsely represented himself as the Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council.

“I am not evading the law,” Adeyemi said when asked about the ongoing criminal proceedings against him.

Expressing confidence in the judicial process, he maintained that he was ready to defend himself in court.

“If I am wrong, let the court decide. If I am right, let the court vindicate me. I am ready to clear my name,” he said.

Adeyemi also revealed that he possesses a letter of appointment but declined to provide further details because the matter is already before the court. He added that he is currently receiving medical treatment and was not in good health.

Rejecting claims that he is a criminal, he stated that the court would ultimately determine his innocence or guilt.

In defending himself, Adeyemi questioned the allegation that the PFIPC was a non-existent government agency.

According to him, it would have been impossible for him to openly operate across the country for nearly three years, holding meetings with heads of ministries, departments and agencies, if the organisation had been entirely fictitious.

“For almost three years, I moved freely, interacted with top government officials and organised official engagements. Nigeria is not a banana republic,” he argued.

Before the controversy erupted, Adeyemi reportedly operated publicly under the banner of the PFIPC, organising high-profile events and engaging several government institutions. Reports also indicated that the agency allegedly secured a proposed allocation of about ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 national budget.

However, the Presidency has firmly rejected Adeyemi’s claims.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described Adeyemi as an impostor facing prosecution over alleged forgery and impersonation.

According to the Presidency, police investigations revealed that Adeyemi allegedly forged a presidential appointment letter purportedly signed by Femi Gbajabiamila, established a fictitious government agency, and maintained 34 bank accounts, including nine accounts allegedly opened in the names of non-existent government bodies.

The Presidency further disclosed that Adeyemi was arrested on October 27, 2025, following a petition submitted by the Chief of Staff to security agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force subsequently filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi and two other suspects before the Federal High Court, bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. The matter has been adjourned until July 27, 2026 for further hearing.

The Presidency also stated that both the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission had earlier raised concerns over the activities of the purported agency before police investigations commenced.

The latest developments follow explosive allegations by Adeyemi against the Chief of Staff, whom he accused of demanding ₦27.4 billion, allegedly representing 48 per cent of the agency’s proposed take-off grant. He also claimed that ₦400 million was paid through a proxy to facilitate his appointment, with an outstanding balance of ₦200 million yet to be paid.

Adeyemi has called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish an independent investigative panel to examine the allegations, review all official documents relating to the disputed agencies, and make its findings public.

He further urged the Chief of Staff to step aside while investigations are ongoing.

As the legal battle unfolds, both the Presidency and Adeyemi remain firm in their opposing positions, leaving the court to determine the authenticity of the controversial appointment and the serious allegations surrounding it.

Court Upholds David Mark as ADC National Chairman, Dismisses Abejide’s Suit with Multi-Million Naira Penalties

The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the leadership of the African Democratic Congress under former Senate President David Mark, dismissing a suit filed by House of Representatives member Leke Abejide challenging the party’s leadership structure.

In a judgment delivered on Thursday, Justice Musa Liman held that the case lacked merit and was not justiciable because it concerned the internal affairs of a political party.

The court upheld the preliminary objections raised by the ADC, its former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, incumbent National Chairman David Mark, and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola.

Justice Liman ruled that Abejide failed to demonstrate that any of his legal rights had been violated by the emergence of the current party leadership.

The judge further held that the lawmaker did not exhaust the internal dispute resolution mechanisms provided by the party before approaching the court.

According to the court, matters relating to the internal administration and leadership of political parties are generally beyond judicial intervention unless there is a clear breach of the law or infringement of a member’s legal rights.

On the substantive issues, the court found that the leadership transition from Ralph Nwosu to David Mark complied fully with both the ADC Constitution and the Electoral Act.

Justice Liman also ruled that the stakeholders’ meeting held on July 2, 2025, and the subsequent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 29, 2025, formed part of the legitimate process that produced David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.

The court noted that the NEC meeting was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, adding further credibility to the process.

Consequently, the court declared that the emergence of the party’s current leadership complied with all constitutional and legal requirements.

Beyond dismissing the suit, the court imposed significant financial penalties on the plaintiff.

Justice Liman ordered Abejide to pay ₦2 million each to all the defendants as litigation costs.

In addition, the court awarded ₦10 million against Abejide’s counsel in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Abejide had filed suit FHC/ABJ/CS/1637/2025 on February 15, seeking to nullify the transfer of the party’s leadership from Ralph Nwosu to David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

The lawmaker argued that the leadership transition, including the July 2, 2025 handover ceremony held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, violated the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.

He also asked the court to restrain David Mark and Aregbesola from functioning in their official capacities and sought an order preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising them as the ADC’s National Chairman and National Secretary.

However, the Federal High Court dismissed all the reliefs sought, affirming the legitimacy of the party’s current leadership.

The judgment represents a major legal victory for the African Democratic Congress as it continues efforts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With the court affirming the legitimacy of David Mark’s leadership, the ruling is expected to strengthen the party’s internal stability and provide a legal foundation for its ongoing political realignment and preparations for future electoral contests.

Labour Party Unveils ₦2.8 Million Essay Competition for Abia Students to Shape the Future of ‘New Abia’

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has launched a statewide essay competition with a total prize pool of ₦2.8 million, inviting secondary and tertiary institution students to contribute ideas on governance and the future development of the state.

The initiative, unveiled on Thursday at the party’s state secretariat in Umuahia, is designed to promote civic engagement, democratic values, and greater youth participation in public policy while encouraging students to critically examine the progress made under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti.

Speaking during the launch, the State Secretary of the Labour Party, Chuks Akamadu, described the competition as the first of its kind by the party in Abia State, noting that it reflects the party’s commitment to empowering young people through intellectual engagement.

According to Akamadu, the essay competition is themed “The New Abia and Need for Consolidation,” a topic aimed at encouraging students to assess the achievements of the current administration and propose practical ideas that will sustain the state’s developmental progress.

He explained that beyond rewarding academic excellence, the competition seeks to provide a platform for young Abians to actively participate in conversations that shape governance and public policy.

“We are doing this because the Labour Party is a political party that is alive to its responsibilities in a democratic society. We are committed to educating citizens, promoting democratic values, and encouraging greater youth participation in the political process,” Akamadu said.

The competition is divided into two categories:

Category A – Secondary School Students

– 2nd Prize: ₦300,000

– 3rd Prize: ₦250,000

Category B – Tertiary Institution Students

– 1st Prize: ₦1,000,000

Participants are expected to submit essays of not more than 1,500 words electronically to the Labour Party’s official email address on or before July 17, while the winners will be announced and honoured during a prize presentation ceremony scheduled for August 3.

Akamadu commended Governor Alex Otti’s administration for what he described as remarkable achievements over the past three years, noting that the progress recorded inspired the essay competition.

He emphasized that the initiative is more than a literary contest, describing it as an opportunity for young people to influence the future of Abia through constructive ideas and policy recommendations.

“The future of Abia belongs to our young people. Through this competition, we are giving them a voice to contribute to the political and developmental conversation shaping our state,” he added.

The competition further underscores the Labour Party’s efforts to deepen civic education, encourage critical thinking among students, and foster a generation of young leaders committed to the continued development of Abia State.

NYSC Bids Farewell to Khaki as FG Unveils Adire Uniform, Six-Week Orientation and Major Reforms

The Federal Government has announced sweeping reforms to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), including the replacement of the scheme’s iconic khaki uniform with locally-produced Adire fabric, in what officials describe as the most comprehensive overhaul of the programme since its establishment in 1973.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed the development on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, explaining that the reforms are designed to promote local industries, improve corps members’ welfare, enhance national security, and better prepare young Nigerians for the labour market.

According to the minister, the new Adire uniforms will be sourced from Nigerian textile producers in states such as Ogun and Kwara, ensuring that government spending supports local businesses and stimulates economic growth.

“It is Adire. Adire is being produced in Nigeria. We have them in Ogun; we have them in Kwara; we have textile industries. Let’s put our money back into the country,” Olawande stated.

The announcement follows the approval of a comprehensive NYSC reform package by the Federal Executive Council earlier this week.

One of the major highlights of the reform is the introduction of a career-based deployment system that will align corps members’ places of primary assignment with their academic qualifications and professional interests.

Under the new arrangement, graduates trained as teachers, for example, will receive additional orientation and be posted to schools, while other professionals will be deployed to sectors that match their fields of study.

The minister explained that postings will no longer rely solely on the traditional allocation process but will be influenced by the training and programmes undertaken during the orientation camp.

To address growing security concerns, the Federal Government is also reviewing the deployment policy to allow more corps members to serve in states where they studied or are already familiar with the environment.

Olawande noted that the initiative is expected to reduce the number of redeployment requests, reassure parents, and improve the effectiveness of national service, especially in regions facing security challenges.

He added that those willing to serve in other parts of the country would still be given the opportunity to do so.

The minister dismissed reports suggesting that the military would be removed from the NYSC scheme, describing such claims as misleading.

According to him, while the administrative leadership of the scheme will shift towards civilian mobilisation, the military will continue to play its traditional role in maintaining security, discipline, and support during orientation exercises.

“There is no way the military can be taken away. We are simply moving from military mobilisation to civilian mobilisation,” he clarified.

Another major reform approved by the government is the extension of the NYSC orientation course from three weeks to six weeks.

The expanded programme will place greater emphasis on entrepreneurship, vocational training, civic responsibility, leadership development, and employability skills aimed at preparing corps members for life after service.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that the reforms are intended to equip Nigerian graduates with practical skills while making the NYSC more impactful in driving national development.

The reforms signal a new direction for the 53-year-old scheme, with the Federal Government seeking to modernise the programme, strengthen local industries through patronage of Nigerian-made products, improve security considerations in deployment, and enhance the overall relevance of the NYSC to the country’s economic and developmental aspirations.

FCT Court Grants Mike Ozekhome Six-Week UK Medical Trip Amid Ongoing Forgery Trial, Orders Passport Return by August 26

The courtroom in Maitama, Abuja, took a dramatic turn on Thursday as the Federal Capital Territory High Court temporarily eased restrictions on prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, allowing him to travel to the United Kingdom for medical attention for six weeks. The decision, delivered by Justice Chizoba Oji, came with strict conditions, including the mandatory return of his international passport by August 26, 2026, and the continuation of his ongoing forgery and impersonation trial.

The case, which also involves co-defendant Ponfa Useni, stems from a complex international property dispute linked to allegations of forged identities, falsified documents, and a contested London property said to have been secretly acquired decades earlier. Prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation maintain that the defendants participated in a network of impersonation involving a fictitious identity used to claim ownership of a high-value property in the United Kingdom.

During Thursday’s proceedings, the prosecution confirmed no objection to the temporary release of Ozekhome’s passport but insisted it be re-submitted shortly after his return. The court also reaffirmed bail conditions earlier set at ₦10 million with one surety each, while adjourning the case to September 28 for further hearing.

The unfolding trial continues to attract national attention, not only because of the high-profile nature of the accused but also due to its international dimension, with findings from a UK tribunal already playing a significant role in shaping the allegations now being tested in a Nigerian court.

Hon. Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, has launched a temporary free transportation scheme to support residents of Ohafia following the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) in the area.

The initiative, which operates along the Amaekpu–Akanu route, is designed to ease the transportation difficulties experienced by residents who have struggled with increased commuting costs and limited mobility since the enforcement of the restriction on commercial motorcycle operations.

The free transport service is being implemented through the Ikenna & Jenn Ukwa Foundation in partnership with the Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group as part of efforts to cushion the immediate impact of the policy on the people.

Beneficiaries of the initiative include traders travelling to markets, farmers transporting agricultural produce, students commuting to schools, civil servants, artisans, women, the elderly and other residents who rely on affordable transportation for their daily activities.

The intervention is expected to reduce transportation expenses for many households, improve access to workplaces, schools and markets, and provide temporary relief while residents adjust to the new transportation realities.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely response to the challenges created by the ban on commercial motorcycles. Many commended Hon. Ukwa for responding to the needs of the people with a practical solution that directly addresses their immediate concerns.

As operations commence between Amaekpu and Akanu, residents have been encouraged to make good use of the service and cooperate with operators to ensure its smooth and effective operation.

Abia Students Applaud Governor Otti’s Compassionate Intervention in Miss Wendy’s Murder Case

The Abia State Students’ Community has commended Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for what it described as his swift, compassionate and decisive intervention following the tragic killing of Miss Wendy.

In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Chinedu Nwosu, the students praised the Governor’s prompt response, describing it as a reflection of his people-centred leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare and security of Abians.

According to the statement, the Abia State Government immediately released financial support to the bereaved family to help cushion the emotional and financial burden caused by the unfortunate incident.

The students also disclosed that Governor Otti personally facilitated efforts to accelerate the legal process against all suspects, working in collaboration with the Imo State Government to ensure a transparent, diligent and speedy prosecution of those connected to the case.

Beyond the immediate intervention, the government reportedly assured the family of continued support throughout the burial arrangements and until the judicial process is fully concluded, reaffirming its resolve to ensure that justice is served.

The statement further noted that the Governor’s actions align with the core objectives of the “New Abia” agenda, which prioritises the security, protection and dignity of every Abian, both within and outside the state.

The students equally welcomed the recent ruling of an Imo State court, which remanded the principal suspect in prison custody pending further proceedings, expressing optimism that the legal process would deliver justice for the late Miss Wendy.

As preparations for her burial continue, the students expressed confidence that her memory would be honoured through accountability, compassion and the rule of law.

They concluded by reaffirming the confidence of the Abia student community and youths across the state in Governor Otti’s leadership, describing his response as a demonstration of empathy, responsibility and commitment to justice.

INEC Introduces Downloadable PVCs, Rolls Out Digital Reforms Ahead of 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a series of groundbreaking digital reforms aimed at making Nigeria’s electoral process more accessible, transparent, and efficient ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, revealed that the Commission will introduce downloadable Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for eligible voters who have lost, damaged, or can no longer read information on their original cards.

According to Amupitan, the innovation is designed specifically for voters who had previously collected their physical PVCs. Applicants seeking downloadable replacements must report the loss or damage at least 90 days before an election to enable proper processing.

The Commission will first test the initiative during the upcoming Osun State governorship election before extending it to future elections nationwide.

Beyond downloadable PVCs, INEC also disclosed that it is putting finishing touches on a fully digital voter registration platform that will allow eligible Nigerians to register online without physically visiting INEC registration centres for biometric capture. The Commission says the technology is awaiting final approval before pilot testing begins.

Amupitan explained that these technological innovations are intended to eliminate barriers to voter participation and ensure that no eligible Nigerian is disenfranchised.

Recognising that technology alone cannot guarantee credible elections, INEC also announced a strategic partnership with the National Orientation Agency to intensify voter education across the country.

The collaboration will focus on combating voter apathy, electoral misinformation, political violence, and vote-buying through sustained grassroots sensitisation campaigns, particularly targeting rural communities and young Nigerians.

The INEC Chairman stressed that while innovations such as the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) have significantly improved election credibility, public confidence and active citizen participation remain essential ingredients for successful elections.

He noted that recent off-cycle elections demonstrated improvements in election management but also exposed persistent voter apathy and widespread misinformation about the electoral process.

On his part, NOA Director-General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu commended INEC’s reforms and pledged the agency’s commitment to mobilising Nigerians through nationwide civic education campaigns. He said NOA would intensify efforts to discourage vote-buying, electoral violence, and voter apathy while promoting confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the new initiatives signal INEC’s determination to leverage technology and strategic partnerships to strengthen electoral integrity, expand voter access, and deepen democratic participation across Nigeria.
